Arrange Diet for Lupus Nephropathy Patients

Lupus nephropathy patients should arrange their diet based on the nature of the foods and also regulate the eating based on substances for human body metabolism. And here is the arrangement for lupus nephropathy patients’ diet.

1. The intake of protein

If lupus nephropathy patients have above 50% obvious kidney damage, they will suffer from hypoproteinemia and edema. Therefore, they should take enough protein. Protein should focus on high quality animal protein, such as milk and lean meat, with proper amount, less than 100g meat, 2 eggs one day.

2. Blander foods

Lupus nephropathy patients would also suffer from hyperlipidemia, and they may have the symptoms of fever, digest dysfunction. Therefore, they should eat more blander foods and avoid fat meat.

3. Control the intake of salt

Many patients may suffer from swollen. When they take the insulin treatment, it may cause water-sodium retention. So patients should restrict the intake of salt in case of the aggravation of edema.

4. Take foods less in sugar

Hormone is the first medicine to treat lupus nephropathy. Long time taking hormone will cause sugar metabolism disorder. Severe one will cause diabetes. Therefore, patients long time taking hormone should take foods less in sugar, and restrict the intake of sugar.

5. Take foods rich in vitamin and calcium

The pathological basis of lupus nephropathy is systemic vasculitis. The increase of permeability of blood vessels will cause inflammation in the organs or Raynaud's phenomenon. So patients should supple foods rich in vitamin C.

Long time taking hormone may cause calcium phosphate metabolic disorders with osteoporosis, and even osteonecrosis. Therefore, patients should take some calcium supplement in regular and also take more foods rich in calcium.
